We have just spent the morning in Nanning's People Park - bizarre everyone over the age of 50 ish was there doing their morning exercises. The variety was amazing fan dancing, Taichi, circulation class (ie hitting yourself in time with everyone else), latin dancing and even walking backwards - I couldn't help thinking I was looking at some of the next "in" things to hit Physio and gyms in the west!! There was the less intense option of choir singing, Chinese chess or playing a musical instruments.

We have made our way here from Yangshuo and Guilin which are considered to be 2 of the more scenic towns in China. They have some quite amazing geography including many limestone outcrops (hills - Lee) and several rivers. We enjoyed a river cruise from Guilin to Yangshou and on arrival we went Bamboo rafting with a couple of Americans we met on the boat. We really enjoyed Yangshou staying an extra couple of nights and felt the most relaxed so far on our trip.

Shanghai's smog has less effect out in the provinces - but the funny thing is we never saw a belching chimney in Shanghai. Guess they can hide they beyond the very short visibility distance. We played belching chimney instead of Horse on our recent bus trip in the south. We do not miss the frequent "Bags, wallets, sunglasses, DVD" touts on the streets.
Just a note from me (Lee). Jeff celebrated his birthday yesterday and we even managed to have a personalised cake made for him. Doesn't match my mum's chocolate cake but the decorations were impressive

We are heading into the mountains shortly so look forward to escaping some of the heat in the lowlands. Tonight we have an overnight train to Kunming. We are continuing to have lots of troubles accessing our blog so updates maybe sporadic!!
